Any mechanics with some free time? Please take a look at my issue.

Kinja'd!!!

I believe cylinder 2 is toast. The other 3 coils looked fine, but after recently turning 200k miles. I’m not sure if they are since they’ve never been replaced . & After looking at these pics there’s probably a piece of metal bouncing around in there.

Kinja'd!!!

Plug 2 definitely wasn’t making a spark. With the missing piece still inside, Is this even fixable? Did the previous owner never change the oil?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

P ut new plugs in and find out. Looks like that plug maybe wasn't even sealing considering how much dirtier the top of it is compared to the others.

Well if you dont know how old these are at all, might as well just go with new oil and spark plugs and drive a bit. Swap out the oil again and check the spark plugs. If it was driving normal and everything looks more normal, I would be less concerned then. But yeah that doesnt look too good as is lol.

Still would be of value at that point to have the oil sent to blackstone labs for analysis to get a better picture on the engine health.

What AMGtech said is right. There’s a lot of evidence of blow-by on that plug. The missing tip has probably already blown through the system and is rattling around in the cat or muffler.

Get a new set of plugs. If it’s still missing on cylinder 2, swap the coil pack between 1 and 2. If 1 starts missing, then you need at least one new coil pack.

I replaced the plugs & that burnt coil. It didn't make an improvement. Even changed the oil. Not sure where to go from here.

Ditto on the othe r comments. Install n ew plugs and coil if necessary and s ee how it runs.

I am not too worried about the electrode tip missing. It bounced around a couple times and went out the exhaust valve.

If the electrodes are attracted to a magnet, you could fish around inside the cylinder with one of those magnetic wands and see if it picks anything up. But it’s possible the electrode was ejected through the exhaust forever ago. Did it just recently start running rough?

Plugs & coil were replaced this morning. It still runs like a 2 cylinder at best

I probably should have put this in the post, but all plugs & the burnt coil have been replaced. It runs like crap

Then rent a compression tester from a parts store and see what you've got. Really simple test that gives you a lot of information.

It started a month ago. I replaced the coil & it went away. Last week it came back. This morning I replaced the plugs. That didn't change anything

Go ahead and swap the coil pack with the adjacent cylinder. You want to isolate the problem. If number 2 still runs rough and there’s blow-by on the new plug , it may be a problem with stripped threads or damage to the spark plug seat on the head. If it still runs rough and  the plug looks good, it may be an issue with the wiring.

Wiring to the ignition coil could be shorting out? Should be around 12 volts to t he coil. Check to see if the spark plug is getting wet.

Get yourself a mechanics stethoscope and place the needle on the injectors while someone starts the car, you should hear the injector solenoids clicking.

I lost the electrode tip on a spark plug on my Miata and it did exactly what you are describing. Somehow I was able to continue using that spark plug in order to get home though. I just bent the remaining metal with a pair of pliers so that it would still spark and then just gently drove home. New set of plugs and then all has been well ever since! No idea what caused it originally lol.

Runs like crap how. Consistent miss on one cylinder? Or just stumbles, or just won’t pull? All could be caused by plugged converter, bad injectors, bad MAF sensor, plugged filters. Or even just water in the gas. Does the check engine light on, borrow a OBD2 reader and see the diagnostic....

I doubt it is bottom end. Does it have a ton of blowby?

I bet my neighbor has one. I'll check it out. Thanks

07 Camry. I’ll swap the new coil around to see if I can isolate the issue tonight. I’ll see if I can get a video to post tomorrow if that doesn’t work. If kinja will let me.
